Oh to be young again... and insecure, and dysfunctional, and... yeah, maybe not. Every time I read a book that encapsulates teenage angst and intrigue, I am grateful for every wrinkle and grey hair. The first part of this book evokes peak Millenial adolescence.

But unfortunately, it falls flat in the second half. It feels like the author didn't really know where to go from here. The protagonist doesn't seem to develop much and her mid-twenties voice sounds much the same as in her teenage years. Her struggle with her insecurities and trauma feels repetitive after a while as if it's only there to draw out the story. The other characters aren't particularly fleshed out, but maybe that's the point, how 'you' remember things if you're quite self-absorbed.

Regarding the Internet discourse, it feels one-sided and the 'future you' narrator sounds preachy, not letting the reader draw their own conclusions. The novel definitely had potential and I'll give the author's next one a go.
