I generally love Hades and Persephone retellings but this one didn’t do it for me. It felt like Lore Olympus fan fiction with how Robert constantly found ways to force intimate scenes. The scenes were good but barely added to the plot. The story came back around at the 80% mark but it was a very simple solution when the characters are facing a literal war and potential famine. The book was too short for any sort of meaningful world building and it felt half assed. It really was just an excuse to write dirty sex.

Hades is a sweetheart and hot, Persephone is stubborn and strong willed, love a retelling with a spicy twist. Also love the world building of Olympus as a city with the main gods as political positions

A hot and spicy modern retelling of Hades and Persephone. I had a fun time and loved Katee Robert’s new take on Greek mythology.

I knew going in that Neon Gods is a dark romance, and I knew the basics of the story of Hades and Persephone and the rest of the Greek Gods of Olympus that I knew that this wasn't going to be a lighthearted romance novel. However, I did not know that the story involved three kinks from my "hard no" list, meaning that I skipped a good half of the book because I found the sex scenes more than squicky. Will not be reading the rest of the series.
