It's a snowstormy night and six people have gathered at the Sittaford house for dinner. Someone suggests a seance and the six gather around a table to hear a message spelled out that claims someone they know is dead. Captain Trevelyan lives six miles away and the snowstorm has made the roads impassable. But the Captain's friend is concerned and decides to make the trek to the Captain's house on foot. He arrives too late, the Captain is dead, obviously killed quite recently.
The local police get the assistance of Inspector Narracott who is stumped. How did Captain Trevelyan's death get foretold at the exact time it was happening? It couldn't have been any of the six people as they were all together and a blizzard kept anyone from traveling long distances. So who could have killed the Captain in a blizzard and why would they want to kill him? A few people rise to the surface as suspects but nothing and nobody feels quite right to Narracott. Is this murderer going to go free?
I really enjoyed this one. I thought it was clever. I actually think I have read it before because the closer I got to the end and the reveal the more I was accurately guessing specific parts of the story and the characters involved. But since I'm not entirely sure I have, it doesn't go into the "reread" category for me. Agatha Christie proves, once again, her genius in subterfuge and pulling off what most would call impossible.

Can't believe Agatha Christie invented the girlboss x malewife dynamic
aaahhh bagus, sayang endingnya kok kurang memuaskan.
This was the first Agatha Christie's book I've read and I feel I arrived late to the party. Although I am familiar with her style of story, through Poirot, Miss Marple and "And Then There Were None" mini-series, reading a story in her original writing style was obviously a much richer experience. When I picked up "The Sittaford Mystery" I was craving a classic murder mystery like never before. And after the first chapter, I was hooked and I couldn't stop until I knew who did it (which I didn't get right, damn it).
"The Sittaford Mystery" has all the classic tropes of a murder mystery: the enticing, slightly paranormal, beginning; the foreigner with a mysterious past; the nosy old lady; the young adult who wants to solve the crime before the police and, of course, my favorite, the disclosure of the whole story with every character sitting in the same room.
This has officially marked the beginning of an Agatha Christie rabbit hole for me.

Stabiler Krimiroman, ich wusste bis ans Ende nicht, wer es war
There's nothing like a good old classic whodunnit with a great female character to lead the action.

This is a really good mystery that is perfect reading for winter.

*The Sittaford Mystery* - Agatha Christie (I was really looking forward to the climax but it let me down. I did _not_ like the motive for the murder at all. Perhaps Agatha did too good a job painting the bad guy in good light)
