This book was my companion through my stay at the psych ward, and it hit hard. The first half of the book felt like it was speaking to me. I do think it lost some of its charm after the first 100 pages or so, and turned more towards religion instead of actual hope. Still, this book helped me believe in my second chance. That means the world.

There a few genuinely beautiful passages here- experiences that really hit home, advice that was sorely needed. There was also a lot of meandering and vapid philosophizing.
Ultimately, the book likely reflects it's source material- Kelly's journaling- well. Not every journal entry is going to be a hit, or is even going to make sense. That's just how journaling is.

I could have used a book like this when I was deep in depression 5ish years ago. It started to get to preachy towards the end and also a little to repetitive for my liking.

3.5 ⭐ rounded up. Lots of good pieces of wisdom and nuggets whether you are a Christian (he's a Catholic author) or not.

very christian book, sends a decent message through faith but it simply is not my cup of tea.
