Brilliant writing again by Dalton. I just wasn’t in love with the story or the characters . The first 2/3 were great but the last 1/3 I struggled with till the very end.

I enjoyed this, especially the Australian history and the culture. As an Australian we don't get to read enough about our own culture.
As Trent has delivered before, this was a shocking and moving novel.
I found Lola to be more my type of novel just because it was about an 'arty Farty' person which I could understand and relate too.
Quotes:

"The question is how could God allow such misery to fall on one man?"
"That's why people tell stories she thinks. They remind us why we love things. They remind us why we love other people."

This novel is stunningly Australian. It is evocative and poetic, as expansive and unique as the Australian outback and just so damn captivating. The characters are complex and original, and the descriptions of northern Australian flora and fauna are as exquisitely vivid as they are accurate. I was transported right back to the breathtaking beauty of the Top End and my heart is a shimmering mess.
