have you ever gotten into a swimming pool and when you put the first foot in you think, "oh this isn't that bad" and then your shin goes and it's kind of refreshing, and by the time you're thighs you feel really good but then the rest of your body has to go in right so when your hips go under you start to think "oh now what have I done" and then your boobs "this was a mistake" and I mean by the time you have to out your head under water you've already bailed.

This book had that same progression.

Lightweight, fun YA read that rings true to the American teenage experience in all its messy glory.

Love the premise of the book, slightly underwhelmed by execution? Not sure. Still formulating my feelings.

I was asked to read this for a friend, for a specific purpose, which it did not fill. In a huge way, my rating of the book probably reflects more on how it didn't fulfill what I had hoped it would and less on the actual content.

Norris is a Haitian, Canadian, recently transplanted into the steamy heat of Austin Texas. He's witty, funny, and but his mouth gets him in trouble sometimes. I liked and didn't like this book. I loved the humor in the book and it's definitely a fresh take on a unique story line. I didn't like the formulaic ending of the book.

Fun, quick YA read. Nothing mind blowing but it was a good read.

“THE END.
But also, like, not really.
That’s kind of the point. “

This is perfectly fine contemporary fiction with a boy main character that will last a few years and then feel a bit dated. Norris is sympathetic without being super likable--he's judgmental and angry and stupid, but in a way that's understandable and forgivable. I like that he is responsible for the mistakes he makes and grows as a character.

Sweet and funny, a straightforward look at high school from an original voice.
