This was such sweet read. Emily and Blake are cute I really liked setting in small town.

i really do like this book, but i had to knock it down some stars for the writing. the story is a version of a coming-of-age summer with the added complexity of grief and being queer.
i love the overall messages of living for yourself, getting out from under others’ expectations of you, and finding those you’ve loved and lost in yourself rather than things
. the writing though!! it was full of duplicate sentence structures, unnecessary descriptors (particularly “noisily”), and a blatant disregard of show-don’t-tell. the writing made this really beautiful story hard to get through at times. still glad i read it though :)

This hit close to home, just the whole main character and literally everything about her
The grief portrayal is so good

oh man, this was so much better than I had imagined it could be. while slow-paced at first, I like the calmness of it. I loved how it addressed the trauma of Emily losing her mom with crazy intense moments, then contrasted by the slow, peacefulness of times with blake. slow burns are such a pain but so, so satisfying in the end. the author did a wonderful job portraying the feeling of always chasing the boy despite not really knowing why. the insane obsession with him while denying any feelings for girls was extremely spot-on. the ending did bring some tears to my eyes but in a really wholesome, happy way. everything tied together so well. i would definitely read this again when i have the time to read it at once rather than taking a month and a half.
