How can such a creative concept end up feeling so flat? The premise had a lot of potential, but the execution really missed the mark. Important scenes were skipped over instead of being developed, and that made the story feel choppy and underwhelming. The romance (if it was even meant to be one) was confusing — it would be hinted at, then ignored, then hinted at again, without ever going anywhere. It’s disappointing to see such a unique idea fall short because of weak writing. I might continue with the audiobooks since my husband is reading along, but I definitely wouldn’t spend more money to finish the series.

The concept is a fun one to explore and I overall enjoyed the book. There were some story lines that felt rushed, thrown in, or not fully explored. But it was still a fun read

I enjoyed this but was not by any means blown away. I’m unsure yet whether I’ll read the sequels.

A couple things I didn’t like, the way places or things had slightly different names to be different from modern day and dystopian but actually just sounded a bit silly (e.g. publicar for a taxi).

Some of the relationships felt underdeveloped (particularly between the MCs who we actually don’t even see interact that much).

There wasn’t quite enough action for me I don’t think, not with high stakes at least, just gleanings which didn’t have any consequences.

I don’t love the fact that we’re told on the blurb that Citra and Rowan will have to glean each other, this could’ve been a fun twist as it was quite far into the book.

Overall though I did enjoy reading this I like the idea of the world and the questions of ethics and morality and I enjoyed reading a genre I barely read.
