Having watched the movie with Haley Mills, i needed to read the book. Maybe the way it was written.. the way people talked.. prevented me from reading it quickly, like i normally read. But i am glad i stuck with it. I finished it.
And i was surprised by how similar the book and the movie are, except for a thing or two.

As delightful as I imagined.

Ever since I can remember, I have been referred to as a Pollyanna. Though it is usually a slight being thrown, it has never bothered me. I am a silver lining girl, a hopeless optimist. I love the sweet, pure example this character sets. It’s a heartwarming story that reminds us that there is good in everything.

Always loved the Haley Mills movie, can't believe I didn't read the book before now. As usual with movies, there are differences - some are fairly big with this pair. Definitely recommend both - start with the movie in this case!

pamiętam, że kiedyś w szkolnej bibliotece "pollyanna" przypadkiem trafiła w moje ręce (nawet dokładnie to wydanie lmao). i się zakochałam, ale od tamtej pory jej nie czytałam i teraz po prawie idk 12 latach reread and it was amazing. zakończenie może trochę zgrzyta, ale ilość serotoniny jaką dała mi ta książka,,,

Slatka draga Pollyanna!

I know I read this as a kid, but the only thing I could remember was the dang calf's foot jelly.... ewwwww

Anyway, everyone knows what Pollyanna is about. It's ok for what it is.

Now here's Petty Betty - one of the character's speech patterns annoyed the heck out of me. The maid, Nancy, had a habit of repeating her last sentence. "I think you must have gone through the roof, I do, I do!" "I ain't going to tell that child, I ain't, I ain't!" It was weird. It was, it was.

A good book but if I never have to read the word glad again I’ll be glad!

As with most books of this era the plot is a byproduct. Yet, you still love Pollyanna. But given there wasn’t much of a true plot, I can’t say more than it was cute.
