An interesting and compelling character study of a young man trying to keep soul and body together while navigating an alienating modern world. Both sad and darkly humorous at the same time. I very much enjoyed it.
No me voy a volver a quejar cuando mi madre haga potaje
7/10
Pfff me ha costado un poco leerlo, no sabías cuando estaba hablando de verdad y cuando estaba siendo un poco loco.
Además de que el final no me cuadra prácticamente nada, ni reflexión ni una razón.

The uncompromising portrait of the irrational mind, that either causes or is the cause of the extreme poverty our protagonist lives. We follow his thoughts and actions as the weeks go by and comedy and tragedy intertwine. Initially, I wasn't too invested in this novel, but by the time I got to the second half of part two, I was completely immersed in the life of the protagonist and the oddities that he goes through. Can be really funny at times, but mostly devastating with its descriptions of near insanity and misery.

Honestly, can't judge it. I feel to be way too stupid for it, same as with Kafka
there are moments in this book that left me gutted. I like this style of stream of consciousness literature which reveals the darkest corners of the writer's mind. very much like Raskalnikov's.
1.5 stars - I didn't like it.
The world is full of mysteries, such as why this book can possibly have an average rating exceeding 4 stars. Baffles the mind really. This is a slow, rambling, repetitive story about an unlikeable person that despite weakness and desperation secondary to hunger is still able to muster up enough energy for random acts of meanness. The inaccurate synopsis which states, "unforgettable portrait of a man driven to the edge of self-destruction by forces beyond his control.", should be altered as it is in reality quite forgettable with unremarkable writing. And as for "forces beyond his control", a little bit of common sense would have gone a long way for the chap. Case in point, when one is poor, about to be evicted and hungry, you probably should not pawn your warm garment in order to give money to a beggar.
No noteworthy quotes from this one.
First sentence: It was during the time I wandered about and starved in Christiania: Christiania, this singular city, from which no man departs without carrying away the traces of his sojourn there.
