Kris Bryant knocks it out of the park with her latest work, Falling. Shaylie Beck is one of only 11 people who survive a plane crash. During one of the information sessions after the crash, Shaylie meets Piper Cole, a yoga instructor whose fiancee and best friend both died in the crash. The story covers how these two women become friends and much more.

I loved the character development in the book and the difficult feelings that were involved. I can't imagine what something like surviving a plane crash would be like or how I would react to others who lost loved ones while I was still alive. This story kicks things up a notch by introducing attraction and love into that mix of emotions. The sex scenes are HOT and are definitely worth reading for.

It is a very enjoyable read that I am sure I will come back to. I look forward to an audiobook version, hopefully in the near future.

This is the story of Shaylie Beck who is one of eleven survivors in a plane crash. After the plane crash she finds herself attracted to Piper, a woman who lost her best friend and fiancé in the crash. As Piper and Shaylie develops a friendship, Shayle also starts developing feelings but is unsure of how to proceed because of the circumstances.

I liked this book a lot, as someone who's terrified of flying even though I've never even been in an airport maybe this book wasn't ideal for me but I'm happy I read it and it was worth it.

I thought the first half of the book was amazing after that I felt it slowed down a bit, it was still really good though. I really enjoyed that it wasn't bombarded with drama and angst, the whole story was pretty sweet and light (except for the plane crash obviously).

I really enjoyed Kris Bryant's writing and all the characters. Surprisingly my favorite relationship wasn't between the love interests but between the main character Shaylie and her best friend Marisa. I usually don't think a lot of the relationships between friends in novels but their relationship was just super sweet. I definitely wished I had a friend like Marisa.

I did enjoy the relationship between Shaylie and Piper as well though of course but I felt like something was missing, I don't know if it was lack of chemistry or something else.. The whole story was really well written though, there were a lot of sweet romantic scenes, funny scenes and of course some steamy scenes that will make you blush like crazy.

If you're scared of flying maybe this isn't the book for you but other than that it's a really sweet and cute story. I would love to read more of Kris Bryant's books in the future.

I feel like every other Kris Bryant book connects with me and this was one of them. I would have liked to get more of Pipers back story but I still enjoyed the ride

An honest review thanks to NetGalley. I put off reading this because I am deathly afraid of flying. Once I started though I fell in love with Shaylie. This story was off the charts fantastic and I literally did not want it to end. Even the secondary characters of Jason and Marisa were outstanding and so captivating. I most definitely will be reading this book again and soon!

I was keeping this book for my vacation then realized I was not going to want to read about a plane crash while on a plane myself....

It was a beautiful love story with the right amount of twists and turns. The characters were well developed but definitely people I could not relate to. Which was different than other books by this author.

Overall enjoyed the book!

Honestly, the story started a little rough for me in the beginning, but it didn't take long for me to become engrossed in the story.

This felt like a very intense and emotional story, starting chapter one with a plane crash! Throughout the progression of the book, I could really feel the emotional build up between the two main characters. I genuinely was not sure where things were going to go and that was refreshing. Even the side characters were enjoyable and I did not mind at all when those stories would be brought forward to center stage. I cared about everyone in the book.

I normally tend to like first-person storytelling less than third person. I admit I was biased to that opinion as soon as I started reading. Pretty quickly though I found myself not minding it at all. The author did a great job.

The ending felt a tiny bit rushed, but at the same time, I understand why. We got the story the author was telling and any more than that would have dragged it on too much. I think I just found the relationship to be sweet and interesting and just wanted to read more about them.

I’ve got dyspraxia so sometimes when I get too enthusiastic about what I’m reading or when I’m tired, my eyes go faster than the rest of me and I end up spoiling myself by reading the end of the page before the middle. So I’ve learned to hide the lines below the one I’m reading with my hand (like little kids). I don’t usually need to do it all the time, except maybe with mysteries, but I ended up reading almost this whole book with my hand hiding what was coming next. I got so invested in what Shaylie was feeling that I didn’t want to miss even one word. I even almost had to take a break when I was two thirds in, there were so many emotions.

The premise for this novel is a lot of people’s worst fear, a plane crash. Shaylie survives. Piper’s best friend doesn’t, and neither does her fiancée. When Shaylie and Piper first meet at a support group for survivors, then a second time by chance, they’re immediately drawn to each other but at first they don’t know whether they want to be friends helping each other to heal, or more. Bryant dealt with that beautifully.

Like other reviewers, I could have had a bit more on Shaylie’s PTSD but I get why the author would want to focus on the good that comes from the bad. As I wrote above, there were already so many feelings coming from that good, I didn’t feel like I was missing out. And though I knew there was a HEA coming, I nevertheless sometimes had doubt as to whether Shaylie and Piper would reach it. They had a lot of heavy stuff to deal with, and as meant as they were to be together, it could not be easy.

Definitely one of my favorite books so far this year.

I loved the premise of this story. Plane crash survivor meets grieving fiancé. I enjoyed watching the relationship between Shaylie and Piper grow and develop, both taking baby steps to allow the other to process their grief and recovery. The secondary characters and best friends, Marisa and Jason made a nice counterpoint to the starring couple.

So why the average rating? The events following the dramatic opening scenes felt repetitive with little plot development. Everyone was so nice. Lack of conflict, even during the expected breakup portion of the romance dulled what little heat the couple generated. The epilogue was over the top saccharine sweet.

Readers who love their HEA’s with whipped cream and a cherry on top will enjoy this read. It was too sweet for this old bird.

I liked this one but there were a few things that stopped me from really loving it.

First, the pros. The setting was intriguing. MC Shay is at the end of a not terribly enjoyable flight when the worst happens, and the plane crashes. She one of few survivors. She meets the other MC Piper (whose fiancée and best friend we’re both killed in the crash) at a group counselling session for the victims and their families.

Both Shay and Piper are lovely people who had something awful happen to them. They begin to bond as a result of this. Problem is that Shay is instantly attracted to Piper, who is obviously grieving her fiancée and friend. Despite this, Shay continues to see Piper (as friends) even though she’s attracted to her, and their relationship grows. Shay also has a BFF, Marisa, who hits it off with another survivor from the flight, Jason.

Other than the honking red flag of Piper obviously not being in a place to begin a relationship and her dependency on Shay coming from a place of grief and loneliness, I actually liked how their relationship unfolded and how sweet they were together. Although I could have done without both Piper and her yoga trainer friend making multiple comments about Shay‘s level of fitness. Thankfully Shay ignored this and ate/did what she wanted anyway.

The issues I had were that Shay went through a horrible trauma, and apart from some mentions of counselling and a fear of flying/noise/small spaces, Shay is remarkably well-adjusted for someone recovering from something that I would think would have had more of an impact. I think it would have been better to have the MCs meet the way they initially did here, but then have a much bigger time jump before they meet again, so that some of the healing would have reasonably been expected to have already happened.

The requisite breakup was also telegraphed early on and it annoyed me that it was resolved by Piper having the issue confirmed with ‘evidence’ rather than just realising that Shay would never lie to her about something like that.

There’s also very little angst in this book, everyone loves one another, and gets along with everyone else (with the exception of Marisa’s completely understandable scepticism about Piper’s ability to be in a relationship so soon). And while I usually love an epilogue, I found this one to be overly sweet.

Anyway, that aside, I’m a Bryant fan, and while this isn’t my favourite of hers, it’s still a nice read. 3 stars.
