This book was beautiful to read, and it was fun to try out some of the looks Aucoin showcased in the book. I got it from the library, but I returned it feeling a little sad that it didn't have a permanent place on my coffee table.

That said, I don't know if some of it would have been helpful if I was a beginner with makeup. Sometimes the tutorials would more casually outline how to apply the product, assuming you knew from the chapter where it went product by product, but I think the prose wasn't as well edited as the images and techniques, because trying to go back and find what you're supposed to do could be really confusing. (That said, I fared pretty well because I have experience.) Still, I learned a ton of new techniques and feel that my makeup game has been upped considerably. I'd recommend this to anyone interested in makeup!

This one is probably my favorite book of Kevyn Aucoin's work. Amazing!

A master of make up, what' not to love. His makeovers are incredible. And it's nice to know that the reasons the star's look so good is because they have someone so amazing helping them out. To bad we all don't have a Kevyn at home to make us up every day.

very informative and helpful for applying specific makeup looks. it could have gone more in depth with the makeup products, but the purpose was to provide a more foundational knowledge anyway.

I bought this as I hoped it might give me ideas for wedding make-up but in the end I didn't use it as I got a make-up lesson and bought the products from the artist.

I think if you are someone who likes make-up, who's creative, who can interpret the ideas within the book then it'll work for you. I believe it's a bit of a classic primer (no pun intended) in the make up world, but I've not got the experience or inclination so it's remained sat on a shelf.
