I listened to the audiobook version of this book which was really good as it added emotion to some essays that I wouldn’t have found as emotional. But after loving the audiobook I do think I need to get the physical book in the future. Because there weren’t audio descriptions for the two comics and i also want to underline and highlight it. I was hoping this book would have a little more about having tough conversations with friends and family who have different views, but it still worked as is. The audience of this book is a little weird too. Because so many of these essays are written in reaction to Trumps election/first year it does not feel like an introduction to getting involved in politics or protests. It instead feels more like let me highlight all of these people’s opinions that you might already know, but in an eloquent way. That’s a bad way to put that. But it’s a very liberal book and I think the first several essays could put off a teenager who is just interested in a few issues...as I was when I was a teen. But here’s my favorite part. This book made me sob. Jennifer’s Weiner’s essay where she talks about how she took her kids to vote in 2016, teaching resistance to her kids and explaining how trump could change their future - it just hit me. I had that child-like confusion when Hilary didn’t win, why do so many people have so much hate? Literally crying. I also thought this book did an amazing job of getting different voices, whether careers, race, sexuality (though there were a lot of authors)
