Not all socially awkward people are on the spectrum, are super-gifted or have social phobias. But we do perceive social interactions very differently. Thank you Ty.

Wasn't really convinced by the broad generalizations he made about people classified as awkward, especially with his section on innovation. My first question when picking this up is about the overlap with the autism spectrum but his characterization of autistic people as majority with intellectual disability and label not applying if they were successful in life put me off. In the end it ended up being more of a way to classify himself.

I found this book to be cathartic and comforting in a way I wasn't expecting. If you are socially awkward, you need to read this. If you are a supervisor, I implore you to read this. If you have a loved one or friend who is socially awkward, you should read this. Funny, insightful, and unnaturally enlightening, Tashiro's research and thoughtful advice knows no bounds. #bookworm #bookstagram #Awkward #Awkwardthescienceofwhyweresociallyawkwardandwhythatsawesome

A very interesting book about giftedness, awkwardness, and how they are similar and different. The book also provides practical tips for the awkward among us to better understand social signals they might be missing. Tashiro also explained awkward behavior and thought well for those who are not awkward. The book was easy to read, yet was also very well researched.

An okay overview from the point of view of an awkward person. Lots of anecdotes throughout along with some science.

For awkward people like myself, this books is great. However it is so dense and academically packed that I'd need to reread it a few times to get the most of it. I did take some strategies away that I can utilize now with my interactions with others and I'll draw on this book as a resource should I need to review. I think I'll be doing lots of review. :) One step at a time, right?
