I enjoyed the fast pace and storyline, so I read this in a couple of days. I felt a bit sorry for the wife, and found Roan, the husband, wasn’t fleshed out much as character, and instead was just a dick. I felt the ending fell a bit flat, revealing it was Saffyres earlier predator that was attacking everyone. We didn’t really know anything about him so it was hard to care

This was fast paced and so I read it quickly. I am not sure I enjoyed it much. Roan was a complete ass! Maybe that is the point but I usually like characters to have a little more depth than he did. He just seemed to be one of those men that goes around doing whatever they like and have women fawn over them.

His wife, Cate, is suppose to be a professional but we never see that side of her. All we see is her being a dopey house wife and mother. I am not saying these are not important roles, they are. But when a mother/wife is also a professional, then it would be nice to see that side of her. Also, because she is wife/mother it does not mean she needs to be dopey.

The main character, Saffyre is likable, but oh boy does she make questionable decisions. Again, I do not like women, especially young women to be portrayed only in this way. It is difficult to believe that a young woman who had to grow up as quickly as she did, would not be mature enough to make different decisions. The decisions she makes here, are those of spoiled rich brat - which she is not.

All in all, I absolutely despise books that make women look so stupid. Stop it, people, stop it!

DID NOT FINISH: 7%

Claiming that she knew what self harm was because "everyone was doing it these days". Written in the first person. Awful takes on sexual assault/harassment. Incredibly boring. I looked up a plot summary, glad I didn't waste my time.

Last year I was taken by surprise by Lisa Jewell's "The Family Upstairs" - it was an incredibly engaging, adducting, twisted family drama that I didn't want to put down. Naturally, I was very excited to read another one of the author's books, but unfortunately it didn't quite have the same effect. Though the story got a lot more interesting in the second half, I really don't think this one is going to stick with me for too long - the overall plot is pretty forgettable, and a few of the twists are a little too obvious. It did have some really good moments of suspense, and if you're looking for a good thriller to burn through - "Invisible Girl" will do the job. It just didn't have the character depth, plot intricacy, or nuance I was hoping for.

I have loved other Lisa Jewell books in the past. This one left me thinking 'that's it'. It had some really good build up parts. About half way through I was suspecting Josh, the therapists son, of committing all the sexual assaults. Then Owen was arrested and all the details of that, such as him blacking out and being at the wrong place at the right time, felt superficial. In the end it was the man who assaulted Saffyre originally which I felt was a given. Next book on my list is Watching You by Lisa Jewell. Even though this wasn't my favorite, she is a great writer.

love me a twisty, turn-y, dark-ass beach read.
