This book is so good. Plot is great. Once you get started it’s hard to put it down. Lucinda takes a big step in this book. Seeing her growth in this first book makes me so excited to see what is to come. Her and Caiden are just *chefs kiss*. I’m so excited to see what this world brings them. (Disclaimer: Arc Reader)
A very common trope in paranormal fiction is the idea of the “fated mate”, where the two main characters are somehow preternaturally destined to be with one another. This is especially common in fiction involving werewolves or wolf shifters, playing on the idea that wolves tend to mate for life. Missy De Graff’s novel also uses this trope, but to a very interesting end. In this book, the two fated mates are not the Hero and Heroine of the story, but rather, the Heroine and her childhood sweetheart who also feels that they are fated mates, but who rejects her, leaving her to wander the world as part of a pack of rogues. Unfortunately for our intrepid Heroine, Lucinda, the Alpha of the rogue pack has decided to completely ignore the fact that Lucinda has a fated mate and wants to claim her for his own.
I have read shifter fiction numbering in the hundreds at this point and it is very easy for me to get bored with a story that basically re-tells the story of a hundred other shifter novels. This book did not leave me bored. Caiden, the Alpha of the pack in which Lucinda’s fated mate has become the Beta wolf, is a very honorable man who desperately tries to ignore the pull he feels towards Lucinda because he respects the mate bond. At times, that honorable nature wears a little thin, especially in the face of Dylan (Lucinda’s fated mate) rejecting Lucinda and their bond at every turn. And I don’t know about any of the other readers, but I really wanted to slap Sabrina across the face more than once and hope that she gets her comeuppance at least off stage. I very much enjoyed the characters and the mythology that Ms. De Graff has created and I look forward to other outings from her.
While there are some adult situations, nothing is terribly explicit so mature readers 16+ who have enjoyed previous shifter fiction would probably enjoy this novel.

I know I'm the author, so my review is a little bias. But, before I started writing this story I drafted a few key elements of what I would like a review to say for the final release and IMHO I've hit these marks.
-Engaging characters that draw you in
-Realistic conversations
-Just the right balance of conflict, action, and drama
-A unique and original storyline
-Appropriate use of cliffhangers
-A quick and easy read that will leave you flipping pages well past bedtime
I hope you enjoy it! ღ

I got to 45%, but the book felt disjointed. Information was dropped without context and it almost felt like I was reading a sequel where the author assumed I had read the previous ones so the world building was kept to a minimum.
I also really disliked the main character, she has the spine of a wet dish towel where every man, especially her 'fated mate', was concerned. The smell of a man should never be stronger than your sense of self respect.

I am happy to be getting more into shifter romances and this book was really good! Very romantic with awesome paranormal elements, cannot wait for the next book.
