My dad used to read this for me as a bedtime story, and I absolutely adored it. It was so magical and wonderful. Sometimes I wish I could go back to being 5 years old, and have my dad read this to me again because it really was something special.
And while I still love the stories, I find it hard reading them now. Because what could compare to listening to these stories the first time, by having your dad read them outloud to you, while making funny voices for the otters and Puddleglum? For me, nothing really.
But I still think that they can be enjoyed whether you're a kid or an adult. These stories are magical, truly, and should be experienced by everyone.

I don’t think I can write an adequate review for Narnia. I look forward to the time my kids are old enough to read through Narnia with them.

I've read this set of books more times than I can remember. I love them. AS an adult I do wish the girls were a little less helpless (very 'of its time', I suppose) although in the later books they do get a bit more of the adventure. Books 2 and 7 drag in places but overall this is still a firm childhood favourite. I am now reading it with my own kids.

I read it from July 25, 2019 to December 27, 2020.

Why did I do this to myself, you may ask.

Well, I grew up on the films. I wanted to know the other stories.
Susan was probably my first ever crush, I wondered what her future held, and these characters had such an emotional impact on me. I was curious.

But I never read the books.
And I'm thankful for that.
Because the message is questionable at best.

And I think I couldn't even read them if I tried when I was younger, because the writing style is boring as hell. It was pure torture.
I suffered through the first few with audiobooks on 2x speed, then even the audiobooks couldn't save the last two, so I ended up with chapter by chapter synopses.

I like to say at least one or two nice things, even if I hate a book, but I can't come up with anything.

They are all great - my least favorite was "A Horse and His Boy", but the rest were phenomenal children's fantasy books which our whole family enjoyed. It's fun and challenging to discuss the possible metaphors too.

Just re-read these recently, and I still love them as much as I do when I was a child. I also find that it's a different experience each and every time that I read these books, depending on the context of which I'm putting them in.

I gave it only 4 stars because as much as I love it OVERALL, there are a couple that I'm not crazy about.

I read them all a few summers ago and LOVED them!
