The first time I read this book, I loved it. I haven’t read it since, and while fantasy isn’t really my thing, this one was amazing. Never before has a book made me regret reading others—because after I read this, every other book paled in comparison. I can’t believe that instead of them, I could have been reading The Chronicles of Narnia! So yeah, I loved it, and it definitely deserves this rating. After all, IT. WAS. AWESOME.
These books will always be at the top of my favorite books. I have read all of them multiple times.

I actually think it would be more exciting to read the books out of order now that I've read them in their order. The essay on writing at the end was a bit verbose but only slightly dry for nonfiction.
090623 ~ The Magician's Nephew (****): Basically serves as an introduction to Narnia and an explanation as to the origins of the wardrobe. Interesting way to handle those two questions.
090623 ~ The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (****): For some reason not quite as awesome as I remember it?
090624 ~ The Horse and his Boy (*****): I wonder if Gregory Maguire got his idea for Animals from this story.
090626 ~ Prince Caspian (*****): Very neat. There's a place in the Narnia world called Terebinthia?
090628 ~ The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (****): Reminded me a bit of "One Piece" with its island hopping.
090630 ~ The Silver Chair (***): Not quite as brilliant as the others so far, but still decently good fun. Nice that he followed up with Eustace. =)
090702 ~ The Last Battle (****): Well, he succeeded in making me hate the Ape, so I suppose that's saying something. And I was really angry that the Ape got off so easily. Disappointing about Susan really, but clever still. I sort of wondered at this before, but the end of this story makes me want to say it out loud- is Aslan meant to be God?

It must be 20+ years since I last read this book as a child, but with each turn of the page it felt like only yesterday. What a lovely little joy to read!
It’s a classic for a reason. The symbolism in the book of course is obvious as an adult and I must admit I do quite enjoy Lewis’ style, albeit simple.
A must read, no matter what your age! Here’s to rereading the rest of the series now...

Look for my individual reviews to follow. Did want to say here though that my copy of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader that came in this set had a LOT of printing errors in it. One of the chapters began with a page where the print was blackened and smudgy over most of the page and there were at least three separate occasions where a full paragraph was duplicated in its entirety. It was pretty strange, and distracting to the point where I could see it discouraging less motivated readers.
