Breve e scorrevole, si sente la tensione che cresce di pagina in pagina. Ma avrei sprecato qualche riga in più per scrivere una conclusione degna di questo nome.

Not exactly set at Christmas, but published in a Christmas edition of Household Words, which reminded me that the British had a tradition of ghost stories at Christmas.

A thoroughly entertains ghost story.

Gothic. Literature. I'm here for your haunted stories. This one was pretty run-of-the-mill and practically wallops you over the head with it's moral, but still a fun quick read for fans of creepy old houses and moaning ghosts.

Creepy and atmospheric!
What is done in youth can never be undone in age.

The concept of the story was fine and the characters weren’t too bad. The issue was how hard it was to follow who was being talked about, or in other words, the several instances of pronouns that I didn’t know who they corresponded with. Not only that, Gaskell’s style is a bit harder to read compared to other authors during this time period. It may have been due to outside factors in my life that affected my reading experience and comprehension though, so I wouldn’t mind rereading this in the future to see if it’s any better a second time around.
