The inspiration taken from the Brontë sisters is evident but I still like it

A fun short ghost story. Listened to this after hearing about this author in "Monster, She Wrote".

Good if rather generic and in the end rather flatly explicit ghost story. A nice contrast, in that respect, with the more artful ghost stories of James (with whose Turn of the Screw it shares certain crucial stock features – a governess taking care of a child in an isolated country house with an absent master – and thus offers an interesting comparison).

I just finished reading this for my Brit Lit class and I very much enjoyed it. I feel it's a solid place to start with when reading Elizabeth Gaskell's work. It's a lovely gothic story and it was spooky enough to keep me engrossed.

Now I have to finish my homework because I wrote this short review first

“Alas! What is done in youth can never be undone in age!”

A sad, ghostly tale that may not be outright scary, yet creeps into your nerves and into your heart.

La postfazione, nella versione di ABEditore, è migliore del racconto.
