The premise of this book is really interesting, but I found the execution to be lacking in parts…
Also, it kind of felt like “The Giver, but make it space!”especially with the way things ended

It took me a bit to get into the book, but once I understood what was happening and who the characters were I really enjoyed it.

The premise drew me in immediately, and the fact that Petra's abuela liked to change the stories she told made for an interestingly-explored theme throughout the book. Really appreciate the nod to Gaiman's Norse Mythology toward this point.

I enjoyed many aspects of this book: the premise, the message, and the melding of Mexican culture and folklore with sci-fi adventure were all unique and compelling. That being said, there were a few too many holes that took me out of the story. (For instance, I don’t understand how the main character, Petra, was flagrantly exploring forbidden areas of the ship, and yet was never caught - you’re telling me that there were no security cameras present on this very high-tech spaceship? Also, the humans seemed to be able to regain their memories a little too easily for having had them wiped by The Collective …) Overall, this book was entertaining, thoughtful, and made me want to keep reading to find out the fates of the main characters.

What a beautiful story about what makes us human. I loved the mix of science fiction and story. I mean.... I love stories and stories about storytelling. So. ❤️ This will definitely be an addition to my class library.

Interesting book. The plot is compelling, Petra as a protagonist is likable. I enjoyed the message of honoring your past and memories told through Mexican folklore. It missed the mark for me in terms of fleshing out other characters especially Javier. I could see this continuing as a series and maybe then we can get a bit more depth to the other characters.
