This somewhat condensed version makes reading through the entire Bible much more doable. With 31 chapters you can easily do it in a month (or 2 if you are lazy like me). Because it takes out a lot of parts, like genealogies and other things that don't contribute to the flow of the story it makes it easier to view the Bible as one large story. Definitely not a replacement for the Bible, but it is a worthwhile read if you want to take a stab at reading the entire Bible but are overwhelmed by the thought of doing so.

I thought that "The Story" was a great read. My church has been doing a series on this book, but we took a break for the summer. I decided to keep reading and I was so glad that I did. It was a great way to get an overview of the Bible. I found it to be a nice detailed read and it made me want to go back into the Bible and re-read certain books that I perhaps have glossed over or have never read before.

This audio production was well done, complete with sound effects. My favorite was when people tore their clothes - which happened A LOT. That was pretty entertaining.

From what I can gather, the Old Testament is all about God getting pissed off at certain groups of people and then telling other groups of people to rape and kill them all, which they gladly did. The New Testament is all about people "testifying" that Jesus is the Son of God and how we should all repent for crucifying him.

Might be good for someone that has never read the Bible. Passages not marked off as to where they came from in the Bible.

I struggled to connect with The Story. My church read it together and followed along one chapter a week which initially seemed like a small commitment but I didn't find myself connecting with the text the way that I had expected. I think it is a tad long to be considered "compact" and I think it left out a few key parts of the story that were important. Of course this book doesn't replace using the Bible but I felt that we needed the Bible to supplement this text so much that we mine as well have not used this text and simply used the Bible (revolutionary concept I know).

This book really helped me to learn and understand the Bible. The OT had always been very vague to me. I can now see how God used his lower story (the earth) to achieve his upper story. My church did a chapter a week. We met as small groups where we watched a video about that chapter and then we discussed as a group. The chapter would also be used for the sermon that week. I was blessed to lead one of the small groups and I lived it. Tomorrow is our last day and I will miss them.
