This book was... a lot haha I found that I had to suspend my disbelief so many times while reading it because it was such a wild ride that I had some trouble keeping up with everything that was happening. First off, the romance moved waaayyy too quickly for me and didn't make sense with the character's history, in my opinion? I felt like their connection and attraction was unrealistic considering their personnalities and how different they were. I would have loved it more if it had been more on the side of a slow-burn/getting to know each other better but instead they fell in love in like two seconds and I was left reeling lol Also, one of them is demisexual, so that made even less sense. Maybe that's just my slow burn loving heart speaking, but it bugged me.
This is supposed to be a campy, ridiculous romp, and I have to say that on that front, it certainly delivered. Literally EVERYTHING happens in this book. It created some very funny situations, but once again, it didn't leave a lot of room for the romance to happen, so everything kind of felt jammed together. It was as if there was too much plot, too little time for characters development. Also, the liberty that these characters had made me raise my eyebrows many, many times. One of the things I find fun in regency era romance is the fact that the protagonists have to navigate social rules, but I found that part of the story unrealistically easy here. Maybe I also shouldn't have gone into this book thinking it was going to be historically accurate, which is of course also fine, and I'm not saying that because it's romance. I am all for queer people saying fuck the rules and doing whatever they want, but in the context and the era, I didn't think the way the characters acted made a lot of sense. Then I am by no means a regency era expert, and maybe queer people were indeed more in the open than we know or that other stories set in that time period lead us to believe. I think it's fun and important for queer authors to portray queer characters in the past and I know that happy stories are as valid as difficult ones. It was just yet another thing that made me go "huh?" and removed some tension from the story that maybe would have made me more invested. But then, I do love angst and drama lol
Overall, I think that if you love very fun, light-hearted stories with a lot of ridiculous and over the top characters, you'd enjoy this. It was just a little bit on the side of too much for me to love it as much as I wanted to!

I really really wanted to like this book. I heard great things about it and have liked other books by this author but I just found every single solitary character in this book (except Peggy) so supremely unlikeable and annoying I couldn’t spend another chapter with them.
