Something Fabulous

3.62 AVERAGE

Maybe 4.5

This was so funny and sweet and queer! I devoured it, and it made me laugh and smile a lot.
The characters and their dynamics were excellent, the plot was good and addressed Valentine being a pain pretty well. Genuinely just a good, funny ride with excellent characters and a good romance.

Some of the internalized aphobia from the demisexual character kinda got to me at times tbh but it wasn't bad in and of itself, just like had a more negative impact on me personnally than I would've liked

Valentine is obligated to marry Arabella, but she refuses and runs away. This leads to an adventure, whereupon her twin brother, Bonny, and Valentine Chase her and her companion all around the countryside.

Valentine learns about homosexuality, and things finally make seemed when he has feelings for the right twin, Bonny.

This is a light hearted story, and I love all the queer characters and adventures. I tired of Arabella, who was too flighty and over dramatic, but I loved the artsy couple that tied up Valentine.

I liked Boyfriend Material better than this book.

brb joining the valentine defense squad

the romance would have been cute if bonny didn’t keep enabling his abusive sister and blaming valentine for literally everything that happened
Loveable characters: Complicated

Valentine my beloved mereces más but that was fucking funny.

I of course love most of it but hate Belle

I’m not really sure how to rate this one. I liked the relationship between Valentine and Bonny, but Belle is one of the most insufferable characters I’ve ever read. I felt like other characters and the author kept making excuses for her and wanting me to sympathize with her. So I liked a lot of things about this book, especially how funny it was but I can’t really see myself reading the sequel because I have no interest in spending more time with Belle.

Bonny and Flower are cute. The chase for Bonny’s sister was entertaining and I did like this book overall, but in the end I felt like something was missing. That being said, the historical gay romance was a fun to read.

Somehow I always find a super-unlikeable character in one of Hall's books, and this time it was Belle. She felt a bit underdeveloped and her possible reasons for her behavior was only revealed at the end.

My favorite line: "And then a pigeon tumbled from the sky with a small, sad plop."
