When I say I picked this book up and could not physically put it down until I'd finished it, I'm not even remotely joking!

Something Fabulous is a satirical play on the age-old victorian romance, complete with dour duke. It manages to angle to the best of the sub-genre's assets while turning the expectations of the age on its head. The perfect mingling of modern and historical, it is balanced succinctly in a way that will have you repeating "just one more page" to yourself approximately 350 times.

Heartwarming, joyful, and filled to the brim with charm. If you're a fan of romance and enjoy diversity incorporated with a tenderness of ease, this is the book for you!

Loses .25 for having some of my personal icks in how to describe more intimate scenes, but remains a fantastic novel that is absolutely hilarious.

The Duke made me so mad! It absolutely loved the emotions I felt when I was reading this book. I never thought that I would be into a gay regency novel but damn this was something else. I loved the way that Bonny was such a free spirit and never ceased to believe in his happy every after. When Valentine actually realized what was happening he was able to give into himself. I also really loved how everyone was gay!

Honestly, I felt like this one was all over the place. I’m not sure if the naïveté of the narrator was at fault for things not making sense, or if they really just didn’t make sense. That being said, I liked how the author mixed modern themes and slang with the regency setting. No regrets reading it, but I probably won’t read it again.

I did appreciate that Vali seemed to be on the ace spectrum? Maybe demisexual? That paired with Bonny and the other lord who kept appearing being huge flirts made for an interesting comparison even if it wasn’t touched on.

Added a half star for crying.

I have a hard time reading comedy as I find it monotonous and dull. That being said, this book was FANTASTIC. I loved the main couple and thought they were fabulous (heh). I marked down one star simply because I really loved pre-character development Valentine. He was really grounded and, yes, a little rude, but I adored seeing a character who wasn't obnoxiously rooted in fantasy (although they do get better going forward).
I read this in less than 5 hours. So. Very quick, very fun read.

3.5 stars! I read this one for a book club and it took me a little bit to get into. Something Fabulous was much different than Boyfriend Material which I read right beforehand. That fact plus it being historical fiction really hurt my enjoyment of the book. However, it was so good for queer representation especially in a historical time when none of it would have flown. I'm looking forward to see what the next book in the series is.
