Jack the "Angel", Grace, Millie all the main characters are portrayed with depth and seem realistic at their best. The things we see often as perfect are not too perfect. We run after the most perfect things in our whole lives only to understand everything that is perfect is not beautiful. Jack Angel, the perfect husband to the world is nothing but an absolute nightmare in private life. The way story has built up is intriguing. The beautiful bond between Millie and Grace, the friends in this story, and the way Esther is surprised to see such perfection make the story very appealing. "Behind Closed Doors" is a perfect psychological thriller that chills you to the bones and the portrayal of scenarios happening has a long-lasting effect on readers. So, it is definitely a Must Read in this summer.

3.5 *** this book is just crazy. I just can’t even with the whole story. The only thing that bothered me was how Grace would jump to conclusions and decide they were the truth. She wouldn’t even ask first. And at times she was a little obtuse. But overall I thought it was a very engaging psychological thriller.

Ugh. Stupid, unobservant, easily malleable women make me nuts! And when a woman writes such a wimpy character, it’s all the more frustrating. We are all capable of falling victim in certain circumstances, when our defenses are low, or when we’re desperate to protect someone else. Been there. Done that. BUT to allow ongoing threats against a loved one and to have even the briefest flashes of “maybe he isn’t so bad” is inexcusable.
The sister with Downs was by far the most intelligent, logical, intuitive, resourceful, kind, dependable, passionate, proactive character in the story.
I finished this book mainly because it was on my tablet and only listened to sporadically during a period when I was reading 9 other books. Each time I’d pick it up (doing yard work, for instance), I’d swear at Grace — and at almost every woman around her — for allowing such behavior to go on. Finally this weekend, I was determined to finish it and move on, so I had to force-feed myself the last couple of hours. Just awful.
There was no redemption here. No justice (even the wicked thrill at the conclusion was nauseating). No logic. Just blind, willfully ignorant people orbiting an evil that should have been evident if not blatantly obvious. Sounds familiar.
Spoiler alert!!!!!

Just one of MANY glaring holes in this story:
Why didn’t he bite a finger and write her name in blood on the wall? Wouldn’t that have been the ultimate punishment?
