I know this is a thriller (that's why I read it) but it wasn't well done. The physiological aspect was all very obvious and heavy handed. 99% of the book is just abuse. Just straight abuse. If I wanted that I would've watched the news.
This book just left me feeling gross.
No underlying theme was explored. The entire book was just a horrible terrible man abusing innocent people who trusted him.

About midway, I had a hard time really connecting with the main character and narrator, Grace. Her plight seemed hopeless, and even though I wanted her to escape her husband's clutches, I didn't feel much sense of urgency. But once Grace had a bit of a plan, things moved along more steadily. Still, there were sections of the book, especially when Grace and Jack had traveled to Thailand, that seemed to drag. The potential was there, but "Behind Closed Doors" was not the five star book I was hoping it to be. Ah well, for a debut I'd say it was quite well done, so I haven't written this author off as of yet.

This book is f**ked up. I read tons of thrillers to where nothing really shocks or surprises me anymore, and still thought this was so f**ked up 😱
Only giving 4 stars and not 5 because of the dog. I did like how it all came back around in the end but still the poor dog was just unnecessary ðŸ˜
