The artwork is good, and I enjoyed seeing the characters. I still love the story. But I can't get past how much detail and important sentiments are lost in converting the book to a graphic novel form. It really just felt too short and lost too much to me personally

I read this graphic novel in anticipation to re-read the Graceling series. I read it years ago back in high school and ADORED it, especially the third book Bitterblue. I even cosplayed as Bitterblue one year for Halloween (although you could argue I was cosplaying as a princess, but in my heart it was Bitterblue)

I really love this story about going beyond what you’re taught and conquering your fears about yourself. Katsa has great character growth. She’s already admirable in the beginning because of her fighting skills, but she becomes admirable because of her heart and morals toward the end.
Po and Kats are the sweetest couple and really do match each other in so many ways.
But the art style wasn’t what I was expecting, and to be honest, it made Katsa look a little off.

If you liked this, check out Reboot. It’s a sci-fi dystopian story, but the main character of Reboot deals with a lot of similar struggles as Katsa

while this was enjoyable, I could tell it was an adaptation to a graphic novel rather than written as one. it felt like it needed to be longer. it felt like things moved a little too fast & ppl just realized things randomly. hopefully the original novel is better since I'm interested in picking it up.

It has been a hot minute since I read the original Graceling and sequels, but from what I do recall, this was a solid adaptation. The art was beautiful, especially some of the backgrounds. It also showcased the action well and brought the world to life. Part of the reason I'm not a big high fantasy reader is because I have aphantasia and thus struggle to get a sense of the world, since I am unable to picture it. This is, of course, strictly a me problem, but graphic novels do seem to help, which is a definite plus for this adaptation.

Still on the art train, there were several opportunities to take advantage of the visual medium, and this did not miss any of them. The scene where Katsa tells her king that she's leaving and she won't do his bidding anymore comes to mind, as she's explaining/thinking through how the fight will go if the guards attack her. That was awesome.

There were some things with the pacing that I thought could have been tighter and cleaner, but I suspect they stem from the original, rather than the graphic novel. Though now I am interested and mildly apprehensive to see how these particular spots are handled in the original book, if I noticed them here.

Looking forward to rereading the original, because this totally reminded me how much I liked it the first time I read it.
