I don't really know much about Retta but saw her book was available on Overdrive and thought, why not. I will say that I didn't feel like it went too deep into her past or gave anything truly close to the star away. It seemed to focus on tales of her life in Hollywood just trying to make it and now that she has made it. I will say that now I want to know what live-tweeting a show means because it sounds fun to do. Also, I know not to say Treat Yourself if I ever see her in public lol.

Never watched Parks & Rec but would consider it after reading this book. Listened to the audiobook and thought it was lighthearted and entertaining.

I love Parks and Recreation. It is one of the funniest shows ever. So when I saw Retta was writing a book, I was excited. And the book didn't disappoint. When I say this book is laugh out loud funny, I am not lying. My daughter told me to be quiet twice when I was reading it while she was watching tv because I was laughing out loud.
The book is a collection of essays about her life. She doesn't really talk much about Parks and Rec and I thought that would bother me, but it doesn't. My favorite chapter was actually the one she wrote about Hamilton. Though I haven't seen it, I want to now, more than before.
The worst part of the book was the mention Fresno got. Some asshat (pardon the language) from my hometown threw out a racist tweet about her when she was live tweeting a show. She handled the situation with such grace. Just know not all people from Fresno are backwards racists.
I'm not a huge reader of celebrity memoirs. That being said, the cast of Parks and Rec has a lot of talented writers. I've read Amy Poehler's Yes, Please and Aziz Ansari's Modern Romance, both of which I truly liked. And Nick Offerman's Paddle Your Own Canoe is on my TBR. And while I really loved Yes, Please, I have to rate Retta's book at the best. Truly the funniest thing I have read in a really long time.

I enjoyed certain chapters of Retta’s book. It jumps around a lot and each chapter seems super random, but I enjoyed reading about her time on Parks and Rex, her hilarious celebrity interactions and how she became one of the best tweeters out there.

Do yourself a favor and listen to the audiobook. It’s so damn funny. It’s as if she’s just talking to you and not reading from a book.

Books written by celebrities are fun. Simple as that. With that said, I give this five stars because she made me laugh and tear up a bit with her life stories. This woman is intelligent, honest, and true to herself. Cocky? Sure. Does she need to explain that to anyone? No. Her book was the epitome of not owing anyone anything. She wrote what she wanted and either you put it down or stop listening. I enjoy her comedy, her personality, and Donna is my favorite Parks and Rec character.
Just enjoy the ride and the anecdotes.
