I predicted exactly what was going to happen in this book but that doesn't mean it ripped me apart any less. Miss Jodi really killed it and this was such a good book.
A very emotional read. Also a few twists I didn’t expect. Definitely one to read weather you like this genre or not. I will say though that this is the second Jodi Picoult book I’ve read and it is very heavy with law and court scenes so I probably won’t read any of her others because they would all be too similar.
It's a real feels killer. You don't expect any of the things that happen and the decisions made at the end. Good book to cry to.
Beautiful book, I would definitely read again in future!

Wow. I had heard about this book for so long and it was on my mental "to read" list. I'm so so so glad I finally read it, even if I was almost constantly crying. Such a complicated mess of a family in the midst of tragedy... can't we just see ourselves in each character? This story provided a lot of "what ifs" for me to question myself. There is a lot of back story written in to many of the characters (it will be interesting to see how that comes out in movie form. It usually doesn't work) and you get to know each character and love them in their own ways, with or in spite of their faults. I'd read this one again... with a box of tissue next time.
I think this was the first Picoult I ever read back in the early 00s, and I haven’t read it since then. A friend and I talked about it and while I remembered the overall plot, I decided to re-read it. I forgot how well Picoult used to weave her stories, making everyone human. I TOTALLY forgot the ending, so that had me bawling. The newer releases I’ve read haven’t hit like this, so I might have to revisit more of Picoult’s early work.
There was so much I liked about this book but also equal amounts I did not. I felt like the brother’s character and even Kate’s character were under-developed and while I know they weren’t the MAIN characters - they were too important to be left hanging. That said, this book sheds light to a fascinating issue that is often not discussed that brings medicine, love, and morality to a crossroads. All that said - I cannot fathom a logical justification for banning this book.
