Mystery, action, humor and some romance. A delightful over the top read that doesn't take itself too seriously. A nice temporary escape from the real world.

I got this arc in exchange for an honest review.

I mean this book had everything I wanted and everything I didn’t know I needed!!! The mystery, the wit and the romance, this book was fantastic! I absolutely loved it and it kept me on my toes with suspense! I want to reread this over and over again like it was the first time!!! Highly recommend for Mystery/Thriller lovers!!!

Thank you NetGalley and Ruby Books for access to this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I loved the concept of this book, especially as a writer myself, I could relate to so much that Evie internalized as she struggles to write her next novel.

The idea that characters can come to life, show up on our doorstep, and change our lives is one that is an original idea. There were times where I wasn't sure where the story was going, and it was almost like reading 2-3 books in one. Some parts I predicted, but overall the entire journey through the mind of a crime writer and her characters was great.

Remind me never to become a hermit when I'm writing my own stories.

What a twist! This book takes you on a fabulous journey. What starts as a crime novel morphs into an action adventure.

A breath of fresh air. Original and clever. A book that in some ways shouldn’t work … but so does.

Lively, funny, twisty-turny. And a nice play on the authorial experience of characters having their own existence within your head ..l and wondering where the ideas come from.

Well written, well edited, well crafted. Five stars, bam!

Going into this book I didn’t know what to expect. The minute I flew through the first chapter, I knew it was going to be good. At times I had to pause and think, but it never stopped me from wanting to finish the book in one sitting.

I started out this book a bit confused, but that can happen when I start a book that I didn’t know was magical realism. Once I grew accustomed to it, I really started to like it, but then towards the last third, it got so action packed, that I had a tough time following it. I didn’t ever really connect to the characters, but I thought the whole plot concept was really interesting and I love the idea of people’s stories coming to life.

Because I didn’t really feel connected to the story, I did end up skimming a lot of the action scenes because I just wasn’t enjoying them, so the whole end of the book felt really disjointed. I’m not sure if it actually was, or if it was just that I was rushing to finish it and move on.

I think if you like really action-packed magical realism, this would be the book for you! It just didn’t do it for me.

Thank you to NetGalley and Ruby Books for the opportunity to read a copy of this book for free (even though I didn’t get to it right away). All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I may have pushed myself a bit too far out of my comfort zone by requesting Crime Writer by Dime Sheppard. From the get-go I had trouble understanding who was real and who was not. Once characters started to blend into the real world I got even more lost. The whole concept was complex and hard to follow to the point where I DNF at chapter 22. I was simply too confused and the writing did not engross me enough to stay. I did enjoy the parts I read about Daniel and his sketchy whereabouts.

This book is complex and was not right for me, but it may be for you!
