i hardly ever write reviews for anything, but i felt this book was deserving. i first read this book around 2-3 years ago. going into reading it, i genuinely had no idea what the main premise of the book was except for the fact that it had to do with music (which was obvious due to it being written by rob sheffield and the title as well) and that harry styles was photographed with it once (i was a diehard fan at the time). i truly did not expect the book to have such a deep impact on me. the way rob chronicles his life with renee and the impact of music on their relationship was astonishing. he writes with such emotional punch without any of it being cheesy. the moment i finished this book i knew it would be my favorite for a very long time. sheffield said it best; “it was a smashing time, and then it ended, because that’s what times do.”

Quero fazer playlists agora <3

just like a song you need to experience it for yourself...read the book. can we have a re-release with just mixed tapes/cds?

Well I read this in a day and loved it. It definitely captured how I feel about music. It can get you through anything!

Parts of this book are amazing. The first chapter could be one of those absolutely perfect short stories. Each chapter starts with a mix tape track listing, and I badly wished I could listen to them while reading the particular chapter. The audiobook format really doesn't lend itself to that, alas.
So yeah, some spot on observations, some great music nerding, some totally making me cry my eyes out while driving.
But he can also be kind of annoying, and I'm not exactly sure what his wife liked about him, and there are some slow spots, especially in the first half, where I put it down and didn't care much whether I ever got back to it.
