Cannabis: The Illegalization of Weed in America by Box Brown is a graphic novel that discusses and delves into the history of hemp farming, the consumption of cannabis, the cannabis legislation and the racist “war on drugs.” While, this is an important and educational read for anyone interested in the subject, the art style of this graphic novel takes away from the story and could have been better. 3.5/5

Should be required reading if you smoke weed!! With the exception of the more recent Nixon-era war on drugs propaganda I really didn’t know much about marijuana’s history in the US. I thought this book was interesting, infuriating, and a really great example of nonfiction sequential art.

In graphic novel format, it very nicely goes over the history of cannabis use, why it became illegal, and all of the lies that kept it illegal for so long. wow.

A look into the politics surrounding cannabis in the US.

Haven't fact checked yet. The story itself was intriguing and an interesting perspective on America during the 1950s-1970s.

Interesting, entertaining, eye-opening graphic novel exploring the history of cannabis's legal status in the US --and (not surprisingly) how much of the outrage over cannabis was tied to racism and lies.

I learned a lot from this one. It is amazing how many of our present policies were originally put in place as racist tools for colonization.

Super interesting and informative. Could have been a bit better. But overall, good and fast overview of a super complicated topic.
