i enjoyed it a lot

Very solid, but basic, introduction to the history of how weed was gradually illegalized and criminalized within America. It is of course a racist path, filled with purposefully spreading disinformation and wilfully ignoring science. Nothing else could be more American. Highly recommend this compared to a boring lecture on the topic. Art was interesting if slightly on the simplistic side, and material was just deep enough to maintain constant interest.

This was very good. Super informative. Extensive bibliography. Black and White art that perfectly complemented the story being told.

This was a fast and quick overview of the subject. The subject is fascinating which is why it's a damn shame this book wasn't better. Parts we're repetitive, other parts we're shallow, and nothing really stuck out. Honestly, it just feels like a huge lost opportunity to be a great book .

This book just made me hate our shitty white Presidents, corrupt drug laws and anti-Latino racists even more than I already did.

I was provided an Arc from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The first thing I always look for in a graphic novel is the art. I really enjoyed the art of this graphic novel itself but would have loved for it to be in color (this was an arc so I don't know if this is something it will have or not). A very interesting story about how Cannabis went from a spiritual experience to something believed to increase sexual crimes and cause insanity. I loved seeing the history of a drug I thought I knew a decent amount about but clearly didn't. It is a wake up call however to marijuana politics and how there was no real basis for the illegalization of it in the first place. Studies were conducted and doctor's were interviewed and due to racial bias this science was ignored. An overall good read for people who would like to know more about cannabis, it's various uses and what eventually caused it to be made illegal.

Interesting history, but I felt the end was a bit weak.
