I love all of the lesson ideas that are included! Many of them will be perfect (or easy to adapt) for my learning support classes!

Despite the fact that it took me almost SIX MONTHS to actually finish this book (there was a few months that it didn't get picked up at all) there were some REALLY valuable things to learn from Jeff Anderson's treatise on how to better incorporate grammar into the writing workshop. To me, what made this book worthwhile is that the grammar was actually RELEVANT and not just random textbook drills that teach kids nothing other than how to hate the English language. Jeff Anderson's approach allows teachers and kids alike to CELEBRATE the wonders and frustrations of our language and not dread them.

An insanely practical book with lessons that can immediately be used in the classroom. These lessons are quick and can easily be incorporated into a workshop model.

I read this book a few years ago, and I re-read it to refresh myself on Mentor Sentences. I like that this book has pre-selected Mentor Texts and Sentences to use and that it gives some lesson options for common grammatical misunderstandings.

Super useful book! I love it more for the lessons and worksheets/grammar guides in the back of the book than for the philosophy in the first half. This has definitely changed my thinking about grammar instruction, and I appreciate the amount of resources Anderson provides.

I soaked up this over summer break in 2009 and came back to school eager to share Anderson's work with my teammates. This book has a fresh, innovative way to engage students and perhaps even have them enjoying grammar instead of dreading it!

As a new teacher, this book is going to be infinitely useful to me! Even if I don't use the lessons exactly as Anderson wrote them, it's nice to at least have a starting off point. He's done a lot of the work, and all I have to do is adapt it for my classroom.

I love teaching books such as this one.
