Started off amazing but I got really hooked at halfway and stayed up until midnight to finish and now my feelings are hurt. I should’ve finished it in the daytime. What an ending.

  • Starting off with the characters, Autumn for some reason really reminded me of the character Wednesday. The same gory and unique interests, the goth-inspired fashion, and her creative mind in writing dark stories (she wants to be a writer). But besides this she did have her own twist to the character, she was different from other girls but she wore a tiara. Moving onto Phineas aka Finny, Autumn's bff from birth, he really struck me as a quiet, shy, but somehow intensely attractive individual that everyone wants to be around. Seeing their dynamic together go through childhood and adolescence, and the misunderstandings that come with growth were interesting to see.
  •  The storyline was kind of mid ngl, it was a very predictable book and I had added this book to my list due to other people's reviews since I had seen that the ending made people's hearts tear in two, but for me it... didn't? It just felt so abrupt and incomplete to me for some reason. I was slightly shocked with how the ending fell through but besides that, there were no tears on my end.
  •  I honestly do wish that the book showed more of Autumn and Finny's bond, which it did in the last 20% of the book, rather than the chunk where they were both in relationships with other individuals. It was sad to see their relationship wither apart and honestly, from there, the book kind of lost its magnitude.
  •  Both of the friend groups that Autumn and Finny disperse into after their "growing apart" had their highs and lows. Since this book was all from Autumn's perspective, we had more insight into her friend group in high school and honestly, I am a sucker for loving and close-knit friendships BUT this book didn't really give me that feeling.
  • Something that I loved throughout the entire book was the relationship between Autumn and Finny's moms aka The Mothers! Their friendship was one of a kind and NOTHING can replace that. Both of them suffering from lack of a significant other in their lives and having each other as a support system really warmed my heart. If only Autumn and Finny had 30% of that quality in their friendship, I believe they would have been able to resolve their misunderstandings VERY EARLY ON.

4.25 stars. i don’t know who would write something like this, but my mental health is not doing ok.

I have words, like a lot of them. But I don’t know what they are. I hope “
