Do I think this book is good? Not really. Would I be lying if I said I didn’t get invested in these characters? Maybe a little.

This book is fine. It has some similarities to Looking For Alaska in both structure and also one major narrative moment, but lacks a lot of the charm.

The ending kind of crashes and burns, becoming pretty depressing just for the sake of being depressing. I get it’s maybe the realistic approach, but jeez. It sort of feels like a bunch of build-up just for the author to give the readers a big middle finger then be like “Okay, I’m done.” I’m not saying the moment at the end of this book shouldn’t have happened, but for it to happen then having the book end five pages later really sucks.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I think the repetitiveness of Autumn may annoy some people however I thought it was an accurate representation of a teenager trying to find her way in regards to boyfriends, friends etc. I loved the idea of Finny and Autumn still being close even when they were not speaking and I really enjoyed the fact that there was never a big cliche argument between them to end it all. The opening was utterly beautiful with the commentary of Autumn - we know something tragic is going to happen and right from the beginning I was drawn in. I thought the beginning was beautiful especially after finishing the book and re-reading the first part.

Despite loving this book, I have a couple things that would've made it an even better experience for myself and potentially others as well. I think that the relationship between Jamie and Autumn could've come to an end a lot sooner or at least showing signs of it ending a lot sooner as personally I was not interested in them at all after a while. Also I believe that the ending itself could've been a lot more painful if it was less abrupt. I know the point of the ending is that it is the start of Finny and Autumn and that's what makes it so tragic for him to die however personally I think I would've liked them to do more things together as a couple before he died as it would make the ending more impactful. I think the ending with Autumn after Finny dies could've been a bit more detailed...I wanted to know her pain rather than inferring it, considering she is a writer herself I wished there to be maybe a passage detailing her pain or at least a short paragraph or beginning of one of her stories describing Finny and the pain his death caused her. I think the repercussions of Finny's death being shown would've made the story all the more painful.

That being said I thoroughly enjoyed this book and was saddened by the ending. I loved the characters of Finny and Autumn, The Mothers especially as hearing about their lives really impacted on the story.

Despite some parts being forgettable, I will remember Finny and Autumn and this book for a very long time.

A bit predictable but devastating all the same

I just genuinely didn't get it. I kept waiting for it to get going but it never did, it felt never ending.I felt it had a vibe of 13 reasons why on Netflix. The last few pages saved it from a 1 star.

Saw the ending from a mile away. It’s was ok, very childish. Found Autumn super annoying. Not for me.
And don’t get me started on the whole
cheating
thing, hypocrites.
