dark emotional sad slow-paced

I am so over the miss communication trope and the ending was a pointless attempt to add depth.

LAURA YOU WILL BE GETTING MY THERAPY BILL

3.5 the end, really was heartbreaking.

Rating: ⭐.2

I have no words. I don't know why, but I really like sad books, tragic endings...heartbreaking though they may be. They make me believe sadness could be beautiful too, in it's own way. I had so many expectations from this book, considering how it is said to make one cry, I believe that from my rating you can tell, that it definitely did not stand up to my expectations.
I hate that I thought I'd love it, I literally have two paperbacks of it (I bought it but also got it as a gift later) and the book in Finn's pov, which I will probably never read (I'll end up reading it someday)

“If he had been with me, everything would have been different.”

The entire book just gave me a melancholic vibe with the writing style or maybe because I had an idea that the would wouldn't be having a happy ending. While I get that some people adored this book, it is my opinion, that I didn't. If this weren't a buddy read, in no way would I have been able to finish this at all.

Spoilers!
Autumn, The FMC, also the person who's POV the book is written in, she's shown to have been starting a new grade and finding new friends, because she's not one of the 'popular girls' anymore, like she was in middle school, because she didn't try out for the cheerleading team. And the we get to know about her childhood best friend Finn, who is now one of the popular guys and that they used to be close and then grew apart. the classic story.

Over the time, they both get into relationships and different friend groups, yet they sometimes talk, sometimes don't. They're neighbors and their mothers are best friends and they spend Christmas and Thanksgiving together as well.

Fast forward, there's asshole Jamie and Autumn together. Annoying Sylvie and Finn together.
Autumn and Jamie wanna get married when they grow up and Jamie wants to have sex with her while she's not comfortable, and Autumn is confused between Finn and Jamie basically the entire book. Sylvie's also a bit of a bitch and the entire first and most of the second half is just Autumn figuring out her relationship and wearing a tiara everyday for no reason.
After high school graduation, she gets to know asshole Jamie cheated on her with her best friend Sasha just before prom. So, they break up, she gets close to Finny who btw is still with annoying Sylvie. Sylvie goes on a trip. Autumn writes a book about Finny and Autumn. Finny and Autumn have sex. Sylvie comes back. Finny goes to break up with her. They argue in his car. Both die. Autumn tries to kill herself. She lives. She's pregnant with Finny's baby.

So that was the plot. I was very sad when the MMC died. but really, this book was bs, and I have yet to understand the point of it.
