So bored and the story felt choppy and robotic.

Battle Royale is a dystopian book that deals with human relationships, politics, and youth.

After reading the Hunger Games and being let down, I needed a stronger punch and Battle Royale provided just that. It was bloody, it was horrific, it was emotional, and humane above all.

It follows mainly three students, but it all the students get their take on the narration, without overcrowding the story, but by giving different spinoffs on the same story. And even though the start was overflowing with names, afterwards things got better and it was easier to keep up.

True, though, the story got boring in the third part when it came to the main characters, but the rest of them were enjoyable and their stories were heartbreaking.

It started strong, but the repetitiveness is killing me. I would have liked to get to know more about the politics in this world and reasons of this game. The explanations got thinner and thinner ...

Still to this day one of my favourite novels of all time that had a huge effect on me when I first read it 15 years ago and continues to now.

Being older and more politically aware, the abject horror of the world created by Takami is really driven home as you watch characters you've grown attached to die in sudden, horrific, and often undignified means. There are no noble deaths or badass heroes; just an island of teenagers at the mercy of a cruel regime forced to contend with the very worst of humanity whilst barely possessing the emotional faculties to process it.
