I was lucky enough to get approved for an ARC of this book through NetGalley. That said, all thoughts and opinions expressed here are entirely my own.

“I think you’d be really easy to love”

Okay, let me just say that I got this book when I needed it the most. I was seriously excited about Ro and Freddy’s story after catching little glimpses of them in Unsteady, and their story didn’t disappoint.

We got Freddy, the charming star hockey player that seems larger than life, but underneath that confident exterior, he's dealing with feelings of abandonment and thinking he's not worthy of love. And then there’s Ro, sweet and loyal Ro, who's been made to feel so ashamed and insecure.

Their interactions, their chemistry and how they support each other it's everything. Freddy wants to shield Ro from his reputation, all while showing her that she deserves real genuine love. And Ro? She is constantly encouraging Freddy to see his worth. You can really feel their emotional connection, and Corinne does an amazing job exploring themes like self-acceptance and vulnerability. At its core, their story is of two people battling their own insecurities, finding comfort and support in each other and their friends and family. These characters feel incredibly real.

Two insecure people who have been in emotionally abusive relationships learn to love each other in a super wholesome way and grow together. Wish the abusers got some karma

Unsteady was one of my favorite books from 2023 so I was super excited to read Unloved. Just like Unsteady I was immediately hooked from the first chapter. I loved that it was in the same time frame as the first book. Normally that seems repetitive in a series but this was done so well that you forget about Sadie and Rhys until they were included in the chapter. Both main characters feel like they are not worthy of love for their own reasoning which makes them gravitate towards each other. It is through loving each other that they realize how unfairly they have been treated in life and refuse to ever live like that again. Definitely read this if you like sports romance, slow burn, tutor x student.

For me, a great romance has to be a slow burn – I want lots of yearning, longing, and emotional connections to build on the messy journey full of trials and tribulations as characters fall in love that brings out the best in their relationship and themselves as individuals. One author who is ticking all the boxes for me is Peyton Corrine, an incredible writer who sculpts her story around emotionally evocative character-driven plots that can deliver heartwarming love stories that capture the nuances of depths of her characters' personalities, traumas, insecurities, and fears.

Unloved, the second book in the Undone series, is an exhilarating slow-burn romance that brings to life an intoxicating dynamic between the two love interests, Ro and Matty, whose story explores insecurities, self-worth, impacts of toxic relationships, and the messiness of being human. Their relationship is a beautiful example of how to build a solid and strong relationship based on respect, trust, and patience that is supportive and loving.

Corrine's character-building is the reason I devour her books – her characters are some of the most relatable ones I've read in a long time. I felt the pain and insecurities with very raw realism from Ro and Matty, who both hide their wounds behind masks as they struggle with self-worth and perceive themselves as not being enough for the toxic influences. Watching them overcome their limitations and the lies they believe is such an immersive and gripping inspirational character transformation that I couldn't tear my eyes away from the pages.

Thank you to Simon & Schuster and Peyton Corrine for sending me a gorgeous final copy of Unloved. I'm besotted with this book – it is truly a profoundly emotional, swoony love letter that shows that loving the right person is easy and you can love all of them (smiles, warts, flaws & complicated families in all).

Didn't get me for whatever reason, but I commend her for coloring a bit outside of the lines! It's nice when authors go against the very rigid expectations of male characters in Romance.
The title is a tad dramatic, but like, I chuckled whenever I saw it.
