I'm constantly dreading the day I will need to retire books set in college because I'm getting too old and struggle to relate and this book made me wonder if that day is close :( Or maybe it's just the typical "it's not the book, it's me" situation. As I've read Unsteady a while back and not right before this book, the overlapping timeline threw me off a little and left me thinking that I'm maybe missing some key points from Rhys' and Sadie's story.
I absolutely adored Matt from the very beginning because there's something about a broken yet strong boy that loves hard that I just eat up every. single. time. I enjoyed the book slowing peeling back more and more layers to him, but while I felt like there was actual character development, it left me wanting more for him -instead of that weak, absolutely generic epilogue that could have been copy and pasted from almost any other romance book . I wanted Matt to have ... just more, I guess?
There was giggling and kicking my feet on my part thanks to him but I don't think the plot including Tyler really let him grow into one of my favourite characters - but also maybe because somewhere at 30%, I felt like the writing style was the thing that made me struggle to love this. But the yearning was EXCELLENT.
I think it's a highly quotable book and there's definitely some dialogue that will stick with me for a long time, while other parts, like the subpar smut, will probably be forgotten within a day because it wasn't really as raw and vulnerable as the rest of the book.
Not going to lie: the explicit song name dropping also annoyed me by the third time and then it just kept going. Not my thing tbh.
At the end, I'm still happy giving it 4.25 stars because I did have a great time reading it, I felt a lot of feelings, and I think it's on me that it's nowhere near 5 stars for me - and I saw the potential and feel almost sad it didn't get there for me.

Cute, i didn’t enjoy it quite as much as the first one. Rhys and Sadie are my faves but still a cute book
3.5 stars! I had high hopes because I loved unsteady. It felt 100 pages too long and a lot of repetitive stuff within the characters. I think Matt overcame most things but I feel like Ro just kinda shoved it out of her mind and wouldn’t let herself feel everything towards the end
