QB Tyler doesn't disappoint when it comes to taboo/forbidden and SPICE!

Avery has been crushing on her best friend's dad, and neighbor, for a LONG time. Feelings that Avery through were one-sided until they shared some stolen kisses one night during her college break. Fast forward to her graduation and the longing they have for each other has only grown. What starts as a secret fling soon develops into more. Now the trick is keeping it from their family and friends before they are ready to tell them...

Tropes
Best friend's dad
Taboo/Forbidden
Age gap (20+ years)
Smut with minimal plot

No one writes a taboo and forbidden love story quite like Q. B. Tyler and this book was no exception!! Theo and Avery have chemistry that you can feel through the pages… together they are

Q.B Tyler is forever on my one-click auto-buy list. She could put out a preorder with no title, no cover, and no information, and I would still immediately preorder it. That's how much I love her writing. This book is no different. The steam is steamy enough to fill a sauna. The banter and angst are all there. I love that it was a son's best friend book without being a love triangle (not totally anyway) Theo is so totally jealous/possessive and I am here for it. I loved how Avery baited Theo so much, and just drove him crazy with her teasing.
I do wish we had gotten a little more insight into the first time they had made out/hooked up as I live for that initial tension and angst, but we did get a lot of it later too.
SpoilerI also wish Theo had stood up to Lucas more versus just allowing his son to dictate his breakup. I felt like Lucas should have had to do a little more apologizing/groveling to both Theo and Avery.
Also, I loved that Theo's daughter is in her own age gap relationship, and now I need a story about Raegan and Wes, because Wes was my favorite character after Theo and Avery.
But daddy Theo is the best, and he may just be at the top of my QB Daddy's. I might just have to do a re-read of all of QB's books to do a proper bracket.

✨ ARC REVIEW ✨

This book was SPICCCCYYYY! It was my first time to read a book by QB Tyler and I will definitely read more!

QB is the queen of spice and taboo relationships! This one definitely didn’t disappoint in the spice department as that’s what quite a bit of the book is about!

Theo is a retired NFL player, a single dad and 20+ years older than his sexy, smart, flirty and sinful 21 year old neighbor, Avery. However, she’s also his son’s best friend…and someone his son has heavily loved for years…though he tries to deny it. The chemistry between these two is hot! There’s no denying that.

Pros:
I liked the story! I liked the premise of best friends dad and the tension there. The sneaking around was great. I didn’t really have an issue with any of the overall plot. I liked Raegan’s side as well. Her story was interesting to read.

Cons:

Avery is a little bit naive I felt like when it came to her best friend. Lucas has had feelings for her for years and she says they are just friends. I felt like she needed to have a conversation with the boy and say “this is never going to go anywhere and you need to move on”. Also…when he was going through something after moving she definitely should have called him to check up on him.

My biggest issue with the story is that there was NO ANGST leading up to Theo and Avery’s romance. We start the book out and they had already been making out and dry humping. I truly felt like I jumped into a book half way through and missed all the lead up to their relationship. Yes, we get tiny glimpses of what happened but I’d have loved to have had that in the story…not just jumping in when the action and turmoil and resistance had already happened.

And the very last of the book…he asked her to move in, she said no let’s take it slow and let me live separate for 6 months so he pulls out a ring?! That’s exactly what she just said she didn’t want to do!

Also, the mom said she didn’t want her daughter to do what Raegan was doing…but then totally brushed it under the rug when she finds out her daughter is actually having the same kind of relationship.

The spice was great! The scenes are sexy! There is no doubt about that! But I felt something was missing and spent the first 25% wishing I had the build up to their relationship.

QB Tyler strikes gold once more with "The Worst Kept Secret."
This story simmers with heat and secrecy, as an intriguing 24-year age gap separates the characters, 45-year-old Theo and 21-year-old Avery. Remarkably, this age difference only seems to intensify the sparks that fly between them. The concept of a father falling for his son's longtime friend/crush is a gripping and delectable plotline that I couldn't resist.
Avery and Theo's relationship unfolds at a whirlwind pace, marked by an overwhelming passion and desire. Both of them understand they shouldn't be developing feelings for each other, given their complex situation. How could they possibly reveal their growing affection to their families? Yet, the real magic happens when they can no longer deny the emotions that are growing between them. Their chemistry ignites, setting the pages ablaze.
I was completely wrapped up in the story, always perched on the edge of my seat as I tried to figure out how they would navigate the maze of confession without causing harm to the relationships around them. The suspense and intrigue had me fully captivated, and I can genuinely say I was not let down by the thrilling twists and turns.
In the end, "The Worst Kept Secret" left me thoroughly engrossed and deeply moved. QB Tyler has once again demonstrated her knack for crafting stories of forbidden love with remarkable finesse. If you're in the mood for a captivating love story that defies the odds, this book is a must-read. QB Tyler's storytelling shines through, making this another unforgettable gem.
