This was an intense read. It was horrifying, riveting and sickening. This was amazing reporting and storytelling.

I read this book after Say Nothing and if I could have swapped the order on those two books I would have. This book is completely unrelated, but much like Say Nothing has no real resolution. Fantastically researched and meticulous as always. It’s hard not to get really upset while reading this book.

It's so clear that the author put so much effort into researching and truly understanding the impact of the Sackler Dynasty and their painkiller empire. Many parts of this were extremely powerful and emotional - it cut true and deep.

I listened to this book, which was about twenty hours (it was a lot). I think as far as nonfiction goes, I didn't love the structure of the book - I think the presentation of facts and anecdotes, particularly over audio was sometimes difficult to understand and connect. That's why I rated it a three star.
