Very interesting concept! I think the political atmosphere is so accurate and interesting to think about, and something I wouldn't have even considered!
I don't really mind that we don't find out where the strings come from, I don't think that's the point really and I wasn't expecting to.
At points I thought it wasn't very well written, I had to keep on rereading sections because I didn't understand it, but that's maybe the fault of my focus at the moment not the author...

Before reading this book, I came across a review that criticized it for never revealing where the boxes came from. I expected that to bother me, but surprisingly, it didn’t. Once I understood that the book’s core theme was fate versus free will, it made perfect sense that the origin of the boxes was left unexplained. In fact, the boxes themselves serve as a metaphor for that very theme.
I loved how the story explored the concept of free will through each character’s journey and the various hypotheses it raised. It was thought-provoking, emotional, and ultimately uplifting.

This book really kept my interest. I like how it took place in what could be our current world and painted the picture of what it would really look like if this were to happen. I also felt like there were a lot of underlying social themes, the strings could be seen as race in our current. It really made me think about a lot!
I only took away a star because it got long and drawn out.

Very good allegory for many, many topics afflicting our time. But, like most fiction, it paints society as better than we are. So in that way, it's a feel-good social apocalypse book.
