What a slog. This teeny weeny book took me 5 days to finish. I was shocked to hear that this book was published BEFORE Anne of Green Gables. But the two are quite similar in premise and opposites in execution. Rebecca doesn't have much of a personality. I just can't see why everyone around her thinks she's something special. Anne embodies all of the whimsy of childhood and a unique little person that is completely relatable. Am I partial to Anne because of my own red tresses? Possible.... But Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm was not what I was hoping it was.

This was really good! I loved Rebecca, the book was sweet and fun! This was similar to Anne of Green Gables, but without the whimsical descriptions of landscapes and pretend that make you feel magical. Still lovely!
I read this as a child, then read it again a few months ago. Reminds me of Daddy-Long-Legs, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I wanted closure! A sequel! Sadly, the "sequel", "New Chronicles of Rebecca", is dumb. Round two of extra-Rebecca happenings, with most of the stories happening during her childhood. The one that happened when she was 18 had all sorts of closure for Emma Jane, but none for Rebecca. Ugh. Guess I'll just have to make up the stories in my head myself.

A great reread - I had forgotten how charming a book this was. The similarities to L.M. Montgomery's books were also surprising - I hadn't noticed that the first time I read this book.
