Elsy loves to read. On her way to a book retreat, her car break s down in a tiny town. Then she realizes the town is from a book series and there is a character that doesn’t fit in.

I really really wanted to love this book. I have enjoyed every Ashley Poston book I’ve read so far, but this one just felt like a bit of a let down.

I hope Ashley never sees this review, my intention is not to shade her or make her feel bad. This book was just a miss with me.

It was very slow and the plot twist was incredibly predictable, which I’m sure was intentional given what she was trying to do with a feel good romance. It just felt very lackluster and boring.

I tried, I really did. I don’t know if it’s because I’ve read books with this premise and I wasn’t a fan of it, or I just wasn’t in the right mindset. But I was bored. Maybe I’ll come back to it

ashley poston’s writing is remarkably beautiful. i always love her magical realism and this was no exception. eloraton felt like a real small town that was written for romance readers with lovely characters who you wish you knew in real life. however, sometimes the romance fell flat. i loved ander’s backstory and weirdly wish that we had known all of that up front because i think it would have made the book more interesting and allowed for more intimacy b/t the main characters. the romance was really the only thing that i didn’t 100% love, but that honestly could have been because i didn’t love elsy that much sometimes (she felt very one-sided). other than that, it was a wistful whimsical adventure that was really lovely!
