This one is definitely more focused on the military politics than Winter's Orbit so be wary of that if you're mainly there for the romance. But overall it was great, so well written, well developed characters and a plot that had me gripped.

I do think the second half could have been cut down a bit, as I did feel like it dragged in places but overall, what a great book.

favorite line:

There doesn’t have to be a winner and a loser.
There’s always a loser,

the best queernormative world 🥹🥹
the characters were sooo adorable and the vibes were amazing, it was like watching a more futuristic star wars movie with queer cast and just better (and also weirder xD) 😭

-0.75 bc it was pretty hard to understand sometimes (maybe it would have helped if i’d read winters orbit first?) and there could have been a bit more romance (even though I still loved the way the romance was done!)

I already adored the universe that Everina Maxwell built in Winter's Orbit, but Ocean's Echo swiftly grabbed hold of that world and built upon it. Here, Maxwell has crafted a fresh layer of depth, nuance, and tension, not to mention whole new regions and abilities for the reader to explore.

I thoroughly enjoyed the character development, overall plot, and writing quality in this book, but most of all, I adored its protagonists. Tennal and Surit as a pair were the personification of "unstoppable force vs. immovable object", in the best and most dynamic way possible. I loved following them and their complex personal and romantic growth in Ocean's Echo, and can't help but hope that we'll get to see more of them in the future.

I loved Tennal and Surit! The mix of romance and SFF plot was great.
