Honestly I was a bit disappointed by this book. I loved Maxwell’s first book and flew through it, in comparison this just didn’t feel the same. I originally picked it up because I was in a reading slump and hoped a fun read would pull me out of it, but it didn’t give me the same feeling her first release did.
I think some of the humour that was present in Winters Orbit was missing in this one. This, alongside a flatter romance, and run-of-the-mill world building made the book a bit boring.

I hate leaving such a critical review, because I genuinely loved winters orbit, and there was some really amazing rep in this story, that I think was done really well.
I will still get Maxwell’s next release, because I’m holding out hope that this was just a bump in the road. but Oceans Echo just didn’t do it for me.

This book has so many twists and turns. The story had so many moving parts which at some points were hard to keep track of them all, but didn’t really detract from the story. I think the metaphysical aspect of this book was really well handled especially as the story progressed. I also loved the romance. Some aspects of this book would make more sense if you read Winter’s Orbit first, but they could be stand alone.

I also want to give a big shout out to Everina Maxwell’s portrayal of gender. She created her own system which is easy to fallow and allows her characters to explore all aspects of this system without judgment or pigeonholing them to fit preconceived notions the reader might have.

I can’t wait to see what happens next in this universe
