Adding this review retroactively. I took my jolly time reading through all the fables but I did thoroughly enjoy myself. There are a lot of little tales in here I had no idea were attributed to Aesop, and I learned a lot about the origins of the fables themselves. Not a 5 star because it wasn’t a TRANSCENDENT mythological/classical text for me, but I had a fun time!

This was a lot denser than I originally thought, with each page a new story and moral. Due to the conciseness of the stories, listening to all of them consecutively was really challenging and I had to break it up over the course of a few days so I could digest and think about each section.
For most of the stories, it wasn't a mind blowing revelation, but it solidified an idea that I'd heard before or was really interesting to hear the story behind so many common sayings that still live with us today.

Deze bewerking van de fabels van Aesopus door Imme Drost heb ik samen met mijn zoon van 6 gelezen. Hij vindt het een geweldig boek en wil er zijn boekbespreking over houden.
Wat mij opviel is dat de teksten over het algemeen heel eenvoudig zijn, op een paar na. De tekst over Aesopus zelf is lastig voor kinderen, vooral door alle jaartallen en namen die hen niets zeggen. Daarnaast heeft elk verhaal een moraal, samengevat op het einde in 1 zin. Die moraal is ook niet altijd even duidelijk, zeker niet voor kinderen.
Uiteindelijk maakt dat voor mijn kinderen niet uit. Ondanks dat ze niet alles begrijpen, halen ze er een heleboel uit. Leuk boek, met mooie illustraties.

Fábulas poderosas, talvez não em um compilado.
A obra e a vida de Esopo oferecem ensinamentos fascinantes e possuem uma grande capacidade de se atualizarem. Talvez esse seja o maior trunfo das fábulas: a utilização de animais e temas universais permite que essas histórias se adaptem a qualquer época e contexto.
Quis evidenciar minha admiração pela obra para trazer um contraponto. As fábulas são interessantes e poderosas, mas acredito que possam perder força na forma como foram apresentadas, especificamente em uma edição compilada. Acredito que na época, por serem transmitidas por meio de pequenos trechos, em tradição oral, etc., havia um potencial de novidade e aplicação prática, um dinamismo. No entanto, em um compilado de 358 fábulas, os temas se repetem exaustivamente e a experiência torna-se repetitiva.
Acredito que as fábulas de Esopo faziam parte da vida das pessoas e eram utilizadas em momentos oportunos e com astúcia, como podemos ver no livreto ?A Vida de Esopo?. Assim, congelá-las em um compilado estático pode enfraquecer a essência dessa arte.
Mas, mesmo assim, a experiência foi ótima.
