didn’t really have much of an idea of what’s going on. it was very boring and slow even tho it was like only 70 pages. talks about black people in an awful and extremely racist way too.

As usual, Melville is astounding; confusing but astounding. This is the kind of story you have to read at least twice (or more). So much symbolism in the detail of the story, and Mr. Melville loves to make you think. Is he thinking these thoughts, are they the thoughts of Captain Delano, or is Delano a distraction serving as an example of an ignorant American? Who can really say? Very interesting read!
